Abstract

In the current study, magnesium oxide nanoparticles (MgO-NPs) were produced by a sol-gel procedure using an aqueous extract of the Caccinia macranthera plant as a reducing agent. The produced MgO-NPs were illustrated by different analyses. UV-Vis spectrophotometry displays an adsorption band at 357 nm. The XRD pattern illustrates that the mean crystal dimension of MgO-NPs is almost 34 nm with the cubic crystal structure. The existence of magnesium and oxygen elements was shown by the EDX outcomes, and the sphericity of NPs was confirmed by FESEM images. FTIR analysis demonstrated the functional groups imported in the reaction. which may be responsible for the synthesis of NPs. The extent of survival of Huh-7 cancer cells by MgO-NPs was investigated and the IC50 value displayed about 223 μg/mL. The degradation rate of methylene blue (MB) by the photocatalytic effect of MgO-NPs after 120 min was reported to be 87%.
