10 major trends in artificial intelligence in 2024

Stanford University's Human Centered Artificial Intelligence Institute (Stanford HAI), co led by Li Feifei, released the "Artificial Intelligence Index Report 2024". This more than 300 page report is the seventh AI Index study released by Stanford HAI, tracking global artificial intelligence development trends in 2023. Unlike previous years, Stanford HAI has expanded its research scope this year to more broadly cover basic trends such as technological advancements in artificial intelligence and public perceptions of the technology. New report reveals 10 key trends for the AI industry in 2023:

1. On certain activities, artificial intelligence performs better than humans, but not always.

2. Industry still controls most of the state-of-the-art artificial intelligence research.

3. The cost of cutting-edge models rises.

4. The primary country of origin for cutting-edge artificial intelligence models is now the United States.

5. The assessment of LLM culpability is woefully inadequate in terms of standardization and dependability.

6. Investments in generative AI are rising.

7. Research indicates that artificial intelligence improves worker quality and productivity.

8. Artificial intelligence has further sped up scientific advancement.

9. The United States now has a significantly higher number of AI regulations.

10. People are more fearful and have a better awareness of the possible effects of artificial intelligence.
