Is there such a thing as a social structure that constrains individual action, or is society nothing more than a figment of our imaginations?

These structures can have a significant impact on individual behavior and can be thought of as constraints on individual action.

In a capitalist system, for instance, individuals may feel pressure to work hard in order to succeed financially, while in a socialist system, individuals may have more access to resources like healthcare and education but may face less incentive for hard work. It's also worth mentioning that these structures are not fixed, they can change and evolve over time, and often times shaped by individuals and groups. People can work to change the structures in place and create new structures, through for example activism, lobbying and political process.

That being said, it's important to recognize that society is not simply an objective reality that exists independently of individuals. Society is a complex and dynamic system that is created and sustained by the actions of individuals and groups. Society is also a product of the interaction between human beings and the natural environment, and it's an ongoing social construction. Therefore, society can be thought of as both a constraint on individual action and as something that is constructed and sustained by individual and group actions.
