Proposal: Biomechanical and Autonomic Validation of Hemodynamic Compensation in Profound Autism

1. Overview

Profound autism has been systemically misunderstood as a psychiatric diagnosis since its inception. This exclusion of the community from its own research has resulted in a 40-year average life expectancy; we are treated as psychiatric cases rather than biological humans [1].

Since 2023, I have self-funded a biomechanical revolution in profound autism using X-rays, thermal scans, and clinical genetics to prove the pathology is rooted in the skeletal, vascular, and hematological systems. This project is for the community, by the community, committed to sharing all findings via Creative Commons 4.0 to establish a new physiological paradigm.

2. Introduction

Severe motor patterns in autism—including head banging, spinal oscillation, and toe walking—are often dismissed as idiopathic "choices." We propose these are Advanced Hemodynamic Overrides: mechanical interventions utilized to manually facilitate venous return when the autonomic system fails.

R1: Does toe walking (digitigrade gait) utilize the "second heart" (calf muscle pump) to facilitate systemic circulation [2]?

R2: Can we correlate "toe time" vs. "flat time" with heart rate (BPM) and autonomic arousal signatures using the native sensors of a consumer wearable?

R3: Does rhythmic rocking utilize centripetal force to stabilize hemodynamics against gravitational pull?

R4: Does the inhibition of these behaviors trigger acute hemodynamic and autonomic crises [3]?

Hypotheses

H1: Inhibition of the calf muscle pump will trigger immediate compensatory tachycardia.

H2: Plantigrade (flat-footed) standing will yield higher BPM and higher electrodermal distress markers compared to digitigrade standing.

H3: Sedentariness will trigger autonomic arousal within 60 seconds, stabilizing only upon the initiation of rocking.

H4: Restricting these behaviors causes erratic cardiac signatures, indicating that behavioral suppression causes physical damage to the heart.

3. Methods

Participants/Sample

This is an exploratory single-subject (N=1) case study to validate the hemodynamic model. This serves as a feasibility proof for using non-invasive monitoring in a cohort with severe idiopathies that has been historically excluded due to medical trauma.

Materials and Procedures

Hardware: Data collection will rely exclusively on the native sensors of the Google Pixel Watch.

Sensor Suite: Utilization of the cEDA (continuous Electrodermal Activity) sensor to track skin conductance and the PPG (Photoplethysmography) sensor for heart rate monitoring.

Data Logging: Biometric data will be synchronized with a notebook log and video to map specific motor behaviors (aware vs. unaware) to physiological shifts.

Planned Analyses

Data will be processed via a time-series synchronization of cEDA spikes, BPM fluctuations, and movement onset.

IF BPM reduces significantly (>15%) during digitigrade gait, THEN the "second heart" hypothesis is validated.

IF cEDA markers spike when movements are suppressed, THEN the behavior is confirmed as a necessary autonomic stabilizer.

Ethics and Data Management

The use of the Pixel Watch is an ethical choice to avoid the trauma of clinical environments. Data will be anonymized and archived in an open-access repository for replication.

4. Pilot Data

Foundational monitoring during orthostatic challenges provided proof-of-concept:

Flat-footed (Plantigrade): Heart rate of 130 BPM.

On Toes (Digitigrade): Heart rate of 98 BPM.

This 32-BPM differential—achieved purely through biomechanical positioning—indicates that toe walking is a life-preserving circulatory strategy.

5. Budget

Total budget: $10,000.

Hardware: Google Pixel Watch units and accessories ($1,000).

Software & Infrastructure: Secure cloud storage and specialized data processing tools ($2,500).

Statistical Analysis: Consultation for advanced time-series data modeling ($2,500).

Publication & Dissemination: Nature-style open-access fees and Creative Commons 4.0 archiving ($4,000).
